A.R. stands for Acclereated Reader. Accelerated Reader is a program that encourages students to read through computer testing after reading specific books. The program is customized as each student reads on his/her own level - not too hard, not too easy. Students also have specific goals based on their own ability. I would like for all students to earn 25 or more A.R. points this year. Book point values start at .5 and go up based on length and complexity of the book. Each book is also assigned a reading level based on difficulty. When a student accumulates 5 points, he/she has reached the Ready Reader Level. The levels continue with recognition and rewards for reaching goals. Students eventually read chapter books to meet goals. A.R. is a fun way to encourage reading practice and individualize reading instruction for students.
