Welcome Back

This year I'm starting in a new area. I'm not in the gym! I'll be teaching Health Education in the trailer. So far it has been awesome! We are having a great time getting to know the new curriculum.

Mr. Cool is in the gym along with his new para Mrs. Stephens. I'm sure they are having a great time getting to know our great Baker Bears!

Field day survivor fun!!

Just a reminder that Baker's Field Day will be on May 18th. Kindergarten through Second Grade will participate from 8:00 A.M. until 11:00. Third Grade through Fifth Grade will be out on the field from 11:30 until 2:00 P.M. We have several fun and challenging activities planned.  The theme this year is ,"I Survived Field Day." We want your child to be able to participate in safety and comfort so please have them wear P.E. shoes and dress in clothing that is appropriate for a day of running and fun!

If you have not volunteered to help run a station and you are available, please send a note to the P.E. Department at Baker. We still have spaces for people to help. We also can use any paper cups that can be donated for use at our water table. Thank you in advance.

Another activity coming up this Saturday is the Baker Bike Rodeo. Please come to the side blacktop between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. The rodeo is being sponsored by Safe Kids Cobb County. Please bring your bike or scooter for a great time and don't forget your helmet!

Some information to pass on

As information about Spring sports comes across my desk I will try to pass it on for anyone who is interested. Several students have asked about volleyball teams or camps. This information came to me today regarding a Spring League for volleyball. It will be at Palmer Middle School on Sundays from 1:15-3:30 depending on which team you are placed on. The cost is $225.00 for the season and the dates are from Feb.6-May 1. For all the information you can go to www.cobbatlanta.com or contact Jessica Turnbull (Director) at Jessica@cobbatlanta.com's

I'd also like to welcome Bethany Black to the Baker PE Staff. It's great having her here!

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the great weather!

Happy and Healthy New Year!!

Welcome to our New Year! We are working hard getting ready for the upcoming Fitness testing. Testing will begin the end of February or first of March. The current unit we are working on is rhythms. The students are enjoying dancing and getting creative with movement. We have some excellent dancers and had several staff members joining us for our "party" in the gym!!

If your child is interested in participating in Spring sports now is the time to start looking to sign up. Cobb County Parks and Recreation, Kennesaw Parks and Recreation, and Acworth Parks and Recreation and the YMCA all offer many different sports and activities for students and families to participate in at various prices. We are also fortunate to have several different activities available in our community to choose from : Golf, track and field clubs, tennis, gymnastics and dance just to name a few. As I receive information about what is available I will happily pass it on to you.

I also want to let everyone know that Mr. Sherwood, our PE parapro here at Baker, has decided to hang up his tennis shoes due to medical reasons. He has assured me that he will come back to help out and visit, especially for Field Day. We are saying a sad "so long" to Mr. Sherwood but are excited to welcome Mrs. Bethany Black. Mrs. Black has taught PE in Cobb County for 15 years and is excited to be joining us here at Baker. If you get the opportunity, please welcome her to our Baker family!

We Are Busy In P.E.!

The Baker Fun Run was great! We had a wonderful turn-out and many of our parents got information about healthy activities available locally for our families and students. If anyone wants information about where and when to sign-up for various sports or activities please give me a call and I'll be happy to pass on the information.

Our Baker students are busy working in Physical Education. The primary students are working on Locomotor skills ie. running, hopping, skipping, jumping, sliding, leaping, crawling and marching. They have enjoyed testing their skills on an obstacle course we assembled in the gym.

Intermediate students are practicing manipulative skills. Throwing and catching, dribbling(using both hands and feet) as well as striking skills have kept us very busy! Between Thanksgiving and Winter holidays, we will be playing a variety of games to test their skills and abilities.

Welcome back to school! We have started P.E. and the students are showing me how hard they worked this summer. We are working on team building with the older students by playing cooperative games and discussing what it means to be a member of a team. We will be starting the Fitnessgram pretest this week. The younger students are working on the difference between personal and general space and learning some fun new games.
Please remember to have your children wear P.E. shoes to class. P.E. shoes have flat, rubber soles with the toes and heels completely covered.
Check back soon because we have some great activities coming up!

Field Day Volunteers

Wow!! Keep those volunteer letters coming in! We've had a great response, but still not enough to man all of the stations. Please consider giving a short amount of time to help. The students are getting very excited as we begin practicing for the events. If you need any additional information, please feel free to get in touch with me.
