For the month of April (next three weeks) we will be reading, The Napping House by Audrey Wood, The Going To Bed Book by Sandra Boynton &  Russell The Sheep by Rob Scotton.  We will be talking about the things that we do during the day and things we do at night.

We will not have a printed parent newsletter for the rest of the year in order to save resources. Here is the agenda for the next 3 weeks:

We will be doing a hodgepodge of books with no specific 'theme'. It is books I know all the children will enjoy, but could not come up with a theme to incorporate them all... so we will call it "HODGEPODGE"! The last 6 weeks of school will be day and night and then pets.

Week of March 16th - Lucky's Problem and Liam the Leprechaun. These are both books made by teachers about St. Patrick's day.

Week of March 23rd - I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly - by Simms Taback

Week of March 30th - Dinosaur Roar by Paul and Henrietta Strickland

There are no specific songs for St. Patrick's day.

Differences & Acceptance

For the weeks of February 23rd through March 13th, we will be talking about how we are each different and what those differences are (building on the friends and sharing unit from the last 3 weeks).  We will be reading The Long Nosed Pig by Keith Faulkner (first week), It's Okay To Be Different by Todd Parr (second week), and The Tortoise And The Hare retold by Violet Findley (third week) to finish up the friendship/differences/acceptance units.  Please see the attached parent newsletter below for the songs we will be singing for this unit along with information regarding Animated Literacy.

Sharing / Valentines Day

Classic Stories

For the next three weeks we will be learning some classic stories.  We will be reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff (1st week), Goldilocks and the Three Bears (2nd week), and The Little Red Hen by Byron Barton (3rd week).  Please see the attached parent newsletter below for the songs we will be singing during this unit along with information regarding Animated Literacy.

Winter

For the next four weeks, we will be talking about Winter, hibernation, snow, snowmen, etc.  The books for this theme are Time To Sleep by Denise Fleming, The Gingerbread Man adapted by Leigh Blackburn, and Who Will Guide My Sleigh Tonight by Jerry Pallotta & David Biedrzycki.  During this unit, we will make caves out of shoe boxes and put our teddy bears in them to hibernate over the Winter holidays.  When we return from the holidays, we will read Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson & Jane Chapman and wake up our bears from their hibernation!  Please see the attached parent newsletter below for the songs for this unit along with information regarding the Animated Literacy letter for the week.

Thanksgiving

For the next three weeks we will be learning about food and Thanksgiving.  The books for this theme are To Markety to Market by Anne Miranda, I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Pie by Alison Jackson, and One Little, Two Litttle, Three Little Pilgrims by B.G. Halloween

Happy_halloween_candy_rotating_hg_c During the weeks of October 13th - 27th we will be reading Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberley, Corduroy's Halloween by Don Freeman, The Monster Book by Gina Chung, The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything by Linda Williams, & Monster Mischief by Pamela Jane.  These titles include some of our favorite from last year along with some new stories that I am sure the children will LOVE!  We will be talking and singing about pumpkins, spiders, bats, funny monsters, and candy!  Please see the attached parent newsletter below for the songs for this unit along with information regarding the Animated Literacy letter for the week.

Farm

36935161 During the weeks of September 22nd - Oct 6th we will be reading The Three Little Pigs (1st week), The Little Red Hen by Byron Barton (2nd week), and Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown (3rd week).  We will talk about all of the animals that live on the farm and what they do (cows give milk, we can ride horses, etc.).  Please see the attached parent newsletter below for the songs for this unit along with information regarding the Animated Literacy letter for the week.

Builder Brian & Officer Collins

On Friday, we had a wonderful surprise when Builder Brian and Officer Collins both came by to visit preschool!   First, Builder Brian showed us a drill and let everyone push the button that made the drill spin.  Then, we got to see a speed square and we each got to line up 2 blocks to make sure they were strait.  Next, he showed us a measuring tape and we all got to measure one of the building blocks.  Finally, we saw a level and we each took a turn checking the block for level and plum. 

After Builder Brian was done showing us all the neat building tools, Officer Collins came by to show us his police car.  We all went outside and we took turns sitting in the back seat of the police car.  After everyone had a turn, we each took a turn sitting in the front seat with Officer Collins while he showed us the police car camera and computer.  After we were all finished, he turned on the sirens! 

Below are some pictures of Builder Brian and Officer Collins.  We will be sending home pictures next week that show us working with Builder Brian and sitting inside Officer Collins police car.
