Second Nine Weeks Curriculum Standards
Just wanted to send a heads up regarding our new standards topics we will be focusing on this second nine week grading period.
Reading: theme in traditional literature, meaning of common prefixes, identifying puns and palindromes, reading with fluency, sensory details and figurative language, context clues, idioms, multiple meaning words, and identifying foreshadowing in stories.
Language Arts: adjectives and adverbs, creating voice in writing, making judgments about writing, responding to literature, homophones, antonyms, synonyms, and editing writing
Math: geometry, quadrilaterals, triangles, long division, fluency of division facts, measuring angles, and the coordinate grid system
Science: simple machines, forces and motion, light and sound
Social Studies: explorers and revisiting economics and how it affected exploration
We are learning so much! You can visit our county website to get more specific on the standards for our grade level.
Jump Rope For Heart Information
Students have been jumping away at Baker during P.E.! Click on the following link for information on Jump Rope for Heart. It's for a great cause and next week is the last week to do your part. So start raising money!
Conference Week is Coming Up!
Mark your calendars! Conference Week is right around the corner. Beginning Monday October 24 through Friday October 28th I will be meeting with parents regarding your child's progress in my class. School will dismiss two hours earlier that week as well, so make sure to make a note of that, too.
Conference letters went home this week stating the day and time of your child's conference. Look over the day and time and return it back to me if the time is okay. We can work out a better time if the assigned time doesn't work for you.
Cafeteria News! Yummy!
Next week, October 10-14, is National School Lunch Week. Keep an eye out in the cafeteria for exciting information about healthy eating!

Fourth Grade Curriculum for First Nine Week Grading Period
Just wanted to let you know what your child will be learning this first nine week grading period.
Math: place value from hundredths to one million, algebra basics, multiplication and concepts of division, data analysis.
Reading/Writing: Narrative reading and writing to describe
Science: water concepts, weather
Social Studies: basic economics, map and globe skills, Native American cultures
We will also be covering spelling skills as well as language arts skills.
While this basic overview provides the gist of what your child will be learning this nine weeks, it does not begin to go into detail regarding the depth of these topics.
