Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Safety FIRST  for students arriving and leaving school.

Whenever possible please allow your child to ride the bus.  This will help with traffic congestion around the school and will ensure your child arrives on time to school in the mornings.

On time Arrivals:   After the first week of school, please encourage your child's independence and boost self esteem by allowing them to walk to their class on their own.  Long goodbyes at the classroom door usually do not help children transition smoothly into the instructional setting.

When students are arriving, classroom teachers will already begin assisting and directing the student's daily plan.  Please send a note for information updates,  requests for a phone call or conferences if you need to speak with the teacher.  To protect instructional time,  class will begin promptly at 7:50 am and teachers are required to give their full attention to their students.  Volunteers are always welcome to assist in the classroom; however, volunteers are required to prearrange visits with the teacher.

Late Arrivals:  Students should be in their classroom when the bell rings at 7:50 am.  Any student that enters the building after the bell rings is considered tardy, and must obtain a tardy slip from the office.  In order to obtain a tardy slip, an adult must sign their student in the front office.  An excused tardy will be documented with an authorized excuse (ie.  doctor's note, dentist's note, etc. )

Students may enter the school as early as 7:15 am to report to their classroom or the cafeteria for breakfast.  No student may be dropped off earlier than 7:15 am.

Bus riders are greeted daily by staff members upon their arrival and their dismissal.  Each bus rider is assigned a bus based on their home address.  Any changes in address, pick up, drop off or additional riders must be made in writing to the front office.  A copy will be provided to the bus driver.  Please note,  space is limited on the buses and any guest bus rider must be approved through the school office.   (for example;   if a student is to ride home with another student for childcare purposes, both students would need to provide written notice from their parents stating the change and the purpose of the change.  These notes from home would have to be presented to the front office for authorization. )   Bus drivers will not allow unauthorized guest riders.

Occassionally bus drivers have to be absent.  Therefore,  if your bus driver has to be absent,  another CCSD bus driver will complete your route. Sometimes this may lead to second load pick up and/or drop off.   If your child rides the bus and is late due to a bus delay, your child will not be counted tardy.  If your child participates in the breakfast program and is late due to bus delay,  your child will still receive breakfast.

Car riders are greeted daily by staff members upon their arrival and their dismissal.  Carpool drivers will need to obtain a carpool number from the school office.  Once you have registered as a carpool driver, you will be assigned a carpool number.  After you receive your assigned number, please place it in the front window of your vehicle when picking up from the car line.  If you do not have this number, you will be asked to park and obtain a number from the school office.  We ask for your assistance in creating the safest possible environment.  Knowing that our children leave with the correct person is our primary concern.

The same carpool numbers remain active every year the child/children is/are enrolled in Baker. It is not necessary to obtain a new number every year.

For the safety and well-being of our children, the following procedures for car riders are being used at Baker this year:

   1.  At the end of each day, car riders will be dismissed to the gym.

   2.  Only vehicles that present an assigned carpool number will be allowed to pick up students throught the carpool line.  All others will be asked to park and obtain authorization from the front office.  You will be required to present identification before obtaining authorization.

  3.  The carpool number will be called in to the gym.  Car riders will be supervised in the gym until their number is called.  Please make sure your child knows their number.  A monitor will then note your child's pick up.

Early Dismissal: An early dismissal is a student being picked up earlier than 2:20pm.  NO dismissals will be made after 2:00pm.  Please send a note to your child's teacher if you will need to pick up early.  If you forget to send a note, please contact the school no later than 2:00pm.  You will be required to show identification when picking up your child.  Only authorized persons that are listed on your registration/emergency card will be allowed to pick up.  Please be sure to keep your records updated for authorized contact people  and phone numbers.

***** ALL TRANSPORTATION CHANGES****  MUST BE MADE IN WRITING.   A transportation change is when a student's dismissal plan is changed from what the teacher has on record.  Any changes to this plan must be made in writing and signed by the parent/guardian.  Please place these type of notes in your child's communication folder or in a place where your child will know to present the note to the teacher.  Parents/Guardians may make changes in person by making a formal change of tranportation in the school office. No changes may be made after 2:00pm.

Please do NOT call, email or fax in transportation changes.   EMERGENCY transportation changes only will be accepted.  Identification must be validated even in an emergency change.   Please understand this is for the safety of your child/children.

Thank you for assisting us in creating a safe learning environment.

Kimberly Hutcheson

Kim2Welcome to my blog.  My name is Kimberly Hutcheson. As the secretary, I am one of the first faces you see when you come to Baker.

I have worked at Baker Elementary since 2000, but my first experience with Cobb County Schools was as a student.  I moved here the summer before my 10th grade year and completed my last 3 years of high school in South Cobb.

I am a graduate of Georgia Southern University, and it was there that I realized that I enjoyed working with children and families.   Outside of my studies, I  participated in the Big Brother/Big Sister program,  Gateway (traveling youth outreach), and worked at 3 summer camps.  After college, I worked at a Children's Emergency Center and as a Children, Youth and Family Counselor with the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Serives .

In 1996,  I devoted my time and energy to starting my own family when my husband and I became proud parents of a bouncing baby boy.  18 months later we had a beautiful baby girl.  Both of my children have attended Baker since Kindergarten and will "graduate" to middle school during the next 2 years.

We enjoy being a part of the Baker family and community.  We attend church, participate in scouting, sports and various activities in this community.  This has helped me get to know many of our Baker families even better.

I am available to assist Baker families and guests from 7:30 am to 3:30pm, monday through friday, while school is in session.   I also work most of the summer; however, the office is generally closed from mid June to mid July.

I am a part of an exciting office team that works together to manage the everyday business of  school activities by providing support to the administration, teachers and staff, parents and students, and guests of Baker.
