What's the Buzz this week?

Bee2 Week of Oct. 20th

It's hard to believe 9 weeks have gone by! We continue to work hard.  In the next couple of weeks in math,  we will be collecting data to put in graphs, studying the different types of graphs, and be exploring numbers to 100.  We continue to write everyday and are continuing to concentrate on personal narratives. Children are learning about topic sentences, ending sentences and staying on one topic. We will talk about using "voice" in our writing. In reading we are working on retelling stories,  concentrating on characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end. We will also start discussing what the main idea of the story is.  In science, we will be exploring magnets and in social studies we will be finding out about Thomas Jefferson. Thanks for sending the photo release and work release forms back.

Click on projects on the right (or scroll down) to view a power point titled "We've Got the Whole World in Our Hands". Some of you have seen this work hanging in our hallways but now everyone can view it as well as relatives. Please remember that this is typed as your child wrote it (phonetic spelling).

What's the BUZZ this week?

                                   Week of Sept. 29th

Bee2 We have been real buzzzzy these past few weeks! We have been learning about how the world is made up of 7 continents and 5 oceans (they added the Southern Ocean in 2000)! We made paper mache globes to culminate our study.  They should be bringing them home later this week. We also learned about the Earth's landforms. The children worked real hard on their landform dictionaries. I was real proud of how they were able to look the landforms up in the glossary of their social studies book.  In science, we are learning about the seasons and weather.  We are practicing counting on in math and we are learning about fact families. We are working on opening and ending sentences in our writing and learning how to stay on one topic.

Please continue practicing your sight words daily with your child. Remember work on 5 and once they have mastered the 5 on the page move on to the next 5.  I am proud on how hard this class is working and how helpful they are to each other!

What's the BUZZ this week?

Bee2_2                                                                     Bee2a

We have been busy bees! We are learning to add and subtract in math. Please practice math facts with your child. We have been writing a lot in class and emphasizing writing in lower case letters except when a capital is needed and using punctuation at the end of a sentence. We are also learning to stay on one topic when we are writing.  In phonics we are learning to blend words and  are reviewing sounds. We are learning about syllables. The kids are doing great! Please come to Orientation Night on Thursday, August 28th at 6:45 pm.  We will first meet in the cafeteria and then I will talk to all of you in my room (#205). If you have any questions , feel free to send in a note or contact me by email at karen.kennard@cobbk12.org

Thank you for your prompt response on everything I send home!
