The Kelly News
10/7/11
The students are showing great progress. We have been journaling and doing a lot of reading and finding the “Sight Words” within the text. When reading with your child be sure to have them point out the sight words they see. We have been learning about baby animals and their parents in science. In math we are continuing to learn how to count pennies and trade them for nickels. Next week the children will play a “trading money game”. They will roll a die (with the numbers 1 and 2 on it only) and collected a penny for the amount they rolled. When they collected 5 pennies they can trade it for a nickel. The following week they will move on to trading 10 pennies for a dime. Thank you for sending in the apples. We had a great time tasting the different kinds and graphing our favorite. We also enjoyed making applesauce. It was delicious!!!
Remember to record the books that you and your child read together. They will receive a new log each month. If your child read 20 or more books by the end of the month they will earn a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Remember that homework is to read 20 min. a day and to review skills that your child may be weak in. I have attached or placed in their folder a green card with areas of weakness for those students who need it.
Conference schedules are in your child’s folder. Please read it and send it back promptly. If there is a time conflict I will work with you to try to resolve it. It is also an Early Release week; dismissal will be at 12:20.
Thank you parents for turning in the Performing Arts permission slip; we just have one more to get in.
Letter of the week for next week will be Aa
*** Parents please make sure that your child brings in their cut pictures of things that begin with the letter of the week (due Tuesday). This is part of their homework. Thank you.
(If you and your child can’t find pictures feel free to draw 3-4 small pictures instead)
