Science: Habitats

We had a great time learning about habitats this year. Reef, beach, deep sea, river, forest, jungle, arctic and even backyard habitats were explored. Warmer weather has arrived in Georgia. So, now is a good time to shut off the TV or video game and get outside to explore/observe your favorite wilderness area.

Magnet Madness

Our class certainly had some fun magnet experiementation in class. We learned how magnets use an invisible force to attract and repel certain types of objects. Our activities explored floating objects, temporary magnets and electromagnetism. We even learned to use the amazing Chinese invention called the compass. And I am sure everyone will investigate where to find magnetite, the next time they are in North Carolina.

Here are some fun activities to practice what we have learned:

  1. Attraction Activity
  2. Magnet Quiz
  3. Who Wants to be a Magnet Millionaire?
  4. Magnazone
  5. Magnet News
  6. Fridge Magnets
  7. Magnetic Forces Review
  8. Challenge

Math Fun with Geometry and Fractions

In 2009, we will be exploring how fractions and plane geometry are fun and useful for explaining things, other than describing the remains of a pizza. For some useful links on equivalent fractions, identifying and adding fractions, please check out the following:

Multiplication and Division

Grade three is about building foundations in multiplication and division. One very important element of this is memorizing the 1-12 multiplication table. Knowing basic multiplication is the key to understanding division. Drilling with flashcards is a good way to practice. Here are some useful links for flashcards, games and other goodies.
