Welcome to Preschool! 

My Name is Melissa Lane and this is my fourth year teaching in Cobb County. I have also worked as a substitute teacher, paraprofessional, and afterschool teacher. It was while substitute teaching that I really discovered my passion for Special Needs Preschool.  I am very excited to be teaching the autism preschool class for the second year! Last year was a great success! I am also looking foward to helping your children grow academically, behaviorally, and socially.

My post high school education consists of a bachelor's degree of Science in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University and a master's degree of Science in Multiple and Severe Disorders/Behavior Disorders with a concentration in Autism from Georgia State University. I will complete a Specialist Degree in Teaching and Learning December of 2009.

When I am on my own time you can usually find me hiking with my dogs, cooking something new, reading, gardening, or just hanging out at with my friends and family.

Ms. Kathi Higgins

"Hi ya'll", my name is Kathi Higgins.  I am a native of Georgia, born in Atlanta on August 4th years ago! I moved to Acworth 27 years ago when I married.

We have 2 "young adults" now. Chessie is 24 years old and just got married this past June making me an "official" mother-in-law (a title I am proud to have). She married a great guy who fits into our family well. His name is Justin .

Then we have Chadd (that's right, 2 d's)! Chadd is 19 years old and works part time with his dad doing electrical work.

We have 3 dogs, Louiey, Sky, Parker, 2 cats, Fufu and Paws. Last but not least we have Mr. Turtle. As with all animals only Louiey is mine, but...I inherited the rest through Chessie & Chadd when they were little promising to take care of them. I fell for it!

I have worked with children who have autism for 8 years and enjoy it very much.  I was honored by my peers here at Baker when I was voted as the School Professional of the year for 2006-2007.

Some of my favorite things are coffee (can you say Dunkin Donuts, cream & sugar) yum! Another of my favorite drinks can be found at Smoothie King, I do try to do a few healthy things!

I love gardenia's, ladybugs  and oh yeah, once again, DOGS!!

I am looking foward to a great year with you and your children!

Unit Overview

This is a time when we focus on kindergarten readiness skills.  The students will increase their literacy proficiency while participating in numerous engaging tasks. We will following the text of a song from left to right and top to bottom using fun pointers and masks, spot letters in all forms and hiding places, identify sounds with songs and stories and each day we reinforce these learned skills through original and individual artistic expression.
