Welcome to the 2011-12 School year!

First we would like to welcome our new principal, Ms. Shea Thomas, to our wonderful school! Then a warm welcome to everyone in Mrs. Pierce's 2011-2012 class! The school's Meet and Greet will be on Friday, August 12, 2011. It will be from 8:00 to 10:00 A.M. We look forward to meeting you and your student! Our room is the last one on the right down the first hall. We Are in room 112. If you would like to bring in all necessary items your child will require during the school day at this time that would be helpful. The first day of school is Monday, August 15, 2011. School starts at 7:50 A.M. School is over at 2:20, but we will discuss with you at what time your student will get on the bus or what time you should pick up. The school year calendar can be viewed on Baker's Home page.

CBI to Lowe's

Thank you very much to the Lowe's store on Dallas Highway!  They were kind enough to allow us to come on April 14, 2011 to do a planting activity at their store.  Their donation of the seeds, soil and pots was very much appreciated!  Mr. Scott (Ms. Heather's husband) set up a station with the materials for us to plant some seeds.  This was for our science unit about plants!  We planted green bean seeds.  We will watch then grow and document their growth.  Along with getting the opportunity to plant our seeds, we walked around the store and checked out all the merchandise!  We also found the plants that we had pictures of and matched them.  It was a very fun outing.  Thank you again!

Celebrating Spring

Right before Spring Break, we celebrated Spring.  We made butterflies!  We made them so that we could eat them!  We made them out of a slice of bread that we colored and pretzel rods!  This was a fun activity, tastey too!

Our trip to Swift-Cantrell Park

On March 3, 2011 we made a trip to Swift-Cantrell Park in Kennesaw.  It was a beautiful day.  It was a little windy, but still beautiful!  We played on the swings, played on the playground, took a walk, and played in the field!  Then after all that, we ate our picnic lunches! It was a very fun day!  We love going to this park!  It is wonderful for our class! We try to go every year!

Fun on St. Patrick's Day

To start our celebration of St. Patrick's Day this year we glued color pictures onto the same color paper.  After we did this we made a rainbow of all the different colors!  We put this on the wall in the hall!  Then on St. Patrick's Day we made green cupcakes!  We got to see all the ingredients and to mix them all together!  Then of course, we ate them!!!

Reading a story in the Media Center

We had a day when we went to the Media Center and had Ms. Airman read us a story about a pumpkin.  It was a good story!  We really appreciated Ms. Airman reading to us!  After she read the story we answered questions about the story.  Everyone helped with answering the questions! Media Center is FUN!

Pumpkin Muffins and Counting Seeds!

Right before Halloween Ms. Heather brought in a pumpkin!  We weighed the pumpkin, measured the pumpkin and answered other questions about the pumpkin.  We put all of our answers into our Pumpkin Book!  We also estimated how many seeds would be in the pumpkin.  We were way off!  Ms. Rene took all the seeds home, counted and roasted them. Ms. Rene loves roasted pumpkin seeds!

We also made Pumpkin muffins!  We did not use the fresh pumpkin, but instead we used the pumpkin from a can.  We mixed up all the ingredients, baked them and then we ate them!  They were really good!

Adaptive PE - Bowling

This year we only have our Adaptive PE teacher with us one day a week, instead of two or three.  So we have been doing our Adaptive PE on our own!  We have been having a good time with bowling this go around!  Here are some pictures of our students bowling and loving it, for the most part!

Water BINGO!

For most of our units we have BINGO that we can play to reinforce our unit. For the water unit our BINGO cards include flush toilet, swim, cook, ice cubes, wash dishes, water flowers, wash face, drink, brush teeth, wash hands, showering, wash clothes. This also reinforces what water does for us; is it at work or at play!

Animals That Live In Water

We learned about three animals that live in water; an octopus, a lobster, and a frog.  We graphed on our big chart how many we had.  Then we transferred our findings to a smaller graph.  We used paint dabbers and marked each with a dot for the correct number of each on our big graph.  Here is our big graph and us transferring the data!

Painting with Dry KoolAid and ice cubes

Because our science unit is water right now, we did some ice cube art.  We poured some KoolAid on our papers then spread it around with ice cubes.  The ice cube art is below!
