What a glorious and refreshing week.  I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.  Now, we must get back to business.

The letter of the week is “W.”  Pictures for the alphabet dictionaries are due by Thursday.

Our Health we are discussing tooth care.  We focus on the importance of teeth and how to keep them healthy.

We will extend this theme into our Language Arts activities.  We always practice sight words, concepts of print, including segmenting words, blending sounds, and identifying letters, words, and sentences. In writing we continue to implement the habits of good writers:  write the sounds you hear, space your words, draw pictures to match your sentences. 

During the next couple of weeks we will be doing a lot of assessments.  These assessments include reading levels, address recitation, numeral recognition, concepts of print, segmentation of words, inserting text and graphics into a document. 

The math focus this week will be on telling time using an analog clock as opposed to digital.  As always, we continue to review and practice numbers to 30, coin recognition, and trading pennies for dimes or nickels.

Be sure to turn in your Six Flags Reading Log by Wednesday.  I have to go on-line and figure out how to submit your child’s name so I need the documentation in a timely fashion.

Happy Valentines Day!  Thank you so much for all that you do for our class and your children.

Our Language Arts focus this week is "Presidents." 

The letter of the week is "U."  Alphabet homework pictures are due by Thursday, February 17th. The letter for the week after our Winter Break is "W."  Those pictures are due by Thursday, March 3rd. 

We are going on our long-awaited field trip on Wednesday.  We expect to depart around 9:00, returning by noon or so.  Be sure to send a snack that day as we will be having a late lunch. 

The PE department has determined that boots are not appropriate for the activities in their classes.  Please be sure to check the schedule to determine what specials we have daily so that your child will not have to sit out of our once-every-four-days PE class.  Girls also need to wear shorts under skirts or dresses.

Our Baker Student Council is collecting toiletry items for the homeless.  Let's support our children's efforts to reach out to the community.  They will be collecting all this week.  Thanks in advance.

I assessed all children in their ability to recite their addresses and telephone numbers.  A note of  their level of success was on the back of the "Where Do I Live" booklet.  Please assist in their memorization of this information.  We are working in class on city, county, nation, continent.  The next report card reflects their knowledge of this information.

Next week, February 21-24, is our first ever Winter Break.  We are all looking forward to afew days without alarm clocks!  Maybe Spring will be close at hand when we return.

The Groundhog declared we will have an early spring.  Worst case scenario, we have six more weeks of winter.  The end of this dreary damp coldness is in sight.  We need recess.

Congratulations.  You have done it again.  This is the first class EVER in 20+ years to have 100% participation in the 100th Day projects.  You are amazing.  The projects are delightful.  I appreciate the time and effort it took to create these displays.  Thank you.

This week's theme is "Valentines."  A class list for a valentine exchange was sent home last week.  I have added the class list as a page on this site in case the hard copy has gotten lost.  Maybe someone can donate some of those delicious Little Debbie Valentine cakes for our snack that day. (?)

The letter of the week is "J."  Pictures for the alphabet dictionaries are due by Thursday.  The dictionaries are getting really fat. 

I am pleased to announce that we had both the first and second place kindergarten winners of the Baker Elementary Writing Fair in our class.  The first place writing will go to the Cobb County Writing Fair in March.  This was an in-school project.  Congratulations to Evan and Sam.

Remember that our field trip is next Wednesday, February 16th. 

Consider participating in the Science Fair.  Information on this activity came home last week.

Be sure to document reading times on both the Pizza Hut Reading Log and the Six Flags Reading Log.  You can enter the same reading information on both sheets.
