Third Quarter Report Card

Your children have made good progress this quarter.  Most of them know over 40 sight words.  Please continue to go over them at home.  You can have them practice writing them and learning to spell them until first grade.  We have learned the numbers up to 30 and to recognize groups up to 30.  You can continue to work on handwriting at home now and throughout the summer.

The most important thing you can do is to read to and with your child everyday.  The Cobb county library has tons of easy readers and books to share.

Make sure your child has some breakfast and brings a snack everyday.

Wednesday Words

Several happenings are occuring and I need for you to be aware of them.

We sent green paper home last week.  Please trace family members handprints on them and return them so your child can make a family tree.

We sent a notice about the gingerbread houses.  Please send in the requested item.  If you are unable to send it in please send the note back so I can purchase it.  Mrs. Simmonds is coming Monday or Tuesday and she needs all the items of candy to put in individual bags.  We will decorate next Wednesday.

Please return the note regarding the wrapped book for the holiday party.

We are planning to have their party at 9:00AM on Friday the 19th with breakfast type foods and activities.  Watch for a notice soon.

Please work on sight words.  They are not progressing like they should.  Several students know all the words and it makes it so much easier for them to write and begin reading.

Thanks to Jared's mom for sponsoring us in the Office Max adopt-a-class.  I look forward to buying things for the class.  Thanks to

Sydney

's mom for sending in so many goodies for the Salvation Army stockings.

Don't forget to check folder's every night.

Friday Facts October 17th

Don't forget to come to the Fair tonight.  I will be in the Relay for Life booth.  Come by so I can see their costumes and take a picture.
We will be talking about and studying about owls and bats and animals that stay out at night.  {Nocturnal}   We will be talking about Day and Night.
We are working on the numbers 1-10.  I have a lot of counting games for the season so it is a fun time.
Have a great weekend and I'll see you at the fair in the gym or in the building  if it is still raining.  Serena Verner

September 2008

We are fast approaching the end of the first nine weeks.

We have been studying patterns and the numbers 1-5 in math.

In reading each child works on their own level.  Some are reading 3 letter words and some are learning beginning sounds.  Keep reviewing letter names, sight words and sounds at home.  Each child should know at least 5 sight words.  I sent a list home and there is now a list in each child's folder. We are also working on rhyming words.

We are working on pennies and nickels and the value of each.  We go over it every day during Calendar.

Every child should know his address, phone number as a safety precaution.

Next week we will be studying apples, Scarecrows and fall happenings.  We are still working on the above objectives too and will continue through the year.  We have been studying "our world" this week and will talk about rocks and soil next week.

Please send in an apple on Monday.  We will sort and eat them next week.  We will have Apple Pie on Monday, applesauce and apple cake/bread later in the week.  Would anyone like to send in apple cake or bread?  We will cook some of the apples to make our own applesauce.

Fundraising orders are due now so send them in asap.  Reflections are due in to PTA soon.

Thanks for all your support.  It makes my job a lot more fun and exciting knowing you are working as hard at home as we do here.

Sincerely, Serena Verner
