Below is an overview about the Reach for the Stars Innovation Academy.
Reach for the Stars purpose is to provide
• Homework help and academic and culturally enriched activities
• Opportunities for literacy and related educational development for families
• To provide a safe, educational and fun environment for our students
Reach for the Stars-21st Century Community Learning Center Goals
1) To increase academic performance in core subject areas: math, reading/ language arts, science and social studies
2) To improve classroom behavior, homework completion, and to reduce inappropriate behavior by offering a broad array of services such as: youth development and social awareness
3) To provide literacy and related educational development for students and parents/To enhance family involvement
Reach for the Stars serves students who are
• 2nd, 3rd, 4th , or 5th grade student at Baker Elementary
Funding:
This was a competitive grant application through the GADOE’s 21st Century Community Learning Centers. The Reach for the Stars Program was awarded a $ 1,500,371.00 grant over a five year period.
• Year 1-3: $319,228 each year 1 through 3
• Year 4: $287,305
• Year 5: $255,382
21st Century Community Learning Center Reach for the Stars Program is different from the student’s school day: Our program compliments what is taught during the school day. However, we are able to offer a variety of academic and enrichment activities. Our programs offer engaging and interactive projects and experiments. Our classes are set in small groups, usually a minimum of 10 students for academics and 15-18 students for enrichment clubs with one instructor and one assistant.
Program Duration: RSP offers a 12 hour a week program for approximately 26 weeks during the school year.
Baker Elementary operates Monday through Thursday 2:30-5:45 p.m.
Pick up is no later than 6:00 p.m. We do not operate on Early Release Days.
Enrollment Requirements:
1) Completed Student Registration Form
2) Parent/guardian attend Orientation/Registration (note dates and times on the back side of this page)
3) Students must attend a minimum of 2 days per week (Same two days)
4) Parents must attend minimum of two family events throughout the school year.
Important Dates and Reminders:
August 19, 2019: Start of the program, however we are slowly pulling students from ASP to begin our program while we ensure we have adequate supervision and maintain quality of the program.
Our second Parent/Guardian Orientation and Registration will be during ASP pick up time. Please drop by ANY TIME between 4:30-6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2019 at Baker Elementary.
Our program will not operate on any Early Release Days during the school year. The next early release date is Wednesday, August 28, 2019. We will not operate during Conference Week.
